Usage Limits FAQ
Understand email quotas, rate limits, and plan entitlements.
Notify enforces usage limits to keep the service reliable for everyone. Limits vary by plan.
Plan entitlements
| | Free | Pro | Scale | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Emails / month | 1,000 | 10,000 | 100,000 | | Verified domains | 1 | 3 | 10 | | Webhooks | 0 | 3 | 10 | | Log retention | 48 hours | Permanent | Permanent |
See the pricing page for current pricing and overage rates.
Rate limits
In addition to monthly quotas, Notify applies hourly rate limits to prevent sudden spikes. Exceeding a rate limit returns 429 Too Many Requests.
Best practices:
- Implement exponential backoff on
429responses - Spread high-volume sends over time
- Monitor usage via the dashboard or usage API
Domain verification
Verify at least one domain to send production email from your own address. See Domain Verification.
The Free plan allows 1 verified domain. Pro allows 3; Scale allows 10.
What happens when you hit a limit?
Monthly quota exceeded — additional sends are rejected until the quota resets at the start of your billing cycle, or you upgrade.
Hourly rate limit exceeded — wait for the rate limit window to reset. The usage API returns a resets_in value in seconds.
Webhook limit exceeded — delete an existing webhook or upgrade before creating a new one.
Frequently asked questions
Do unused emails roll over? No. Quotas reset each billing cycle.
What's the difference between rate limits and monthly quotas? Rate limits cap sends per hour. Monthly quotas cap total sends for the billing period.
